Foundation Repair in Texas, by city and county

Texas has a lot of ground that moves. We sampled the soil around the centre of every town with a page here, 92 towns in all, using the US Department of Agriculture's soil survey. In 83 of them, at least one sample point sat on clay rated high or very high for shrink-swell. In 53, half or more of the points with a soil reading did.

That kind of clay swells when it gets wet and shrinks when it dries. It lifts and drops slabs and piers as the seasons turn. That is why foundation repair companies work in so many Texas towns, and why they differ so much from one place to the next.

Texas does not license foundation repair companies. A 2013 bill to create a state license did not pass. So the checks are yours to make. Some cities require a permit for foundation work, and several ask for an engineer's sealed plan. You can look up an engineer's license on the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors roster.

Each city page lists the companies that say they repair foundations first, then the rest, by rating and review count. Each county page lists every business in the county, town by town. That is the quicker way in when your town is small.
